Every year on the 14th June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood, millions of people every year give their time and blood to save millions of lives. On this important day, we hope that everyone from the wider community get a deeper understanding of the importance of giving blood, a selfless act of kindness by donating blood today will save a life tomorrow.

Blood resources are essential to human life and health and ensuring high-quality and affordable blood and blood products supply are an indispensable part of public health and one of the elements of an effective health system.

Although the demand for blood and blood products is widespread, there still exist significant differences in the levels of safe blood, blood products and solutions between and within countries. In many countries, blood services face a lot of challenges, especially in ensuring adequate quality and safety while providing sufficient and accurate blood and blood products.

It is a complicated process from blood donation to blood transfusion, and the blood needs to be tested, stored and transported before use. For major blood transfusion services and hospital blood transfusion departments, establishing a reliable and efficient blood management system is essential for providing safe and sufficient blood resources!

Traditional blood management has many drawbacks, for example, if the blood is transported in an existing incubator, the temperature status during blood transfer cannot be recorded, and the temperature of the blood in the transport environment cannot be guaranteed, which creates potential threats to the blood during transport. If the blood is stored in the incubator for an extended period, it is then difficult to ensure the blood quality, and deteriorated blood will threaten a patients’ life.

In addition, the cumbersome blood use process also greatly affects the efficiency from the blood application for surgery, to the blood transfusion department who matches the blood according to the clinical application form. Then the operating room is notified by telephone from the blood transfusion department for blood collection, followed by medical staff sending blood to the operating room, the entire process takes at least twenty minutes.

The time taken for this antiquated process is outdated, and a patient generally needs the blood urgently and every minute taken to supply the blood is extremely valuable.

At the same time, and to limit the amount of times of applying for blood for the operating room and in order to ensure that the blood volume is sufficient, medical workers usually apply for more blood which actually exceeds practical need, resulting in a waste of blood resources.

In response to the above inefficiencies, Haier Biomedical launched the Smart Blood Management Solution:

The constant temperature transfer cooler can offer the optimum temperature to maintain and safe guard the blood during the transportation process, and in real-time show the position of the blood for monitoring and tracing of the sample through IoT technology.

The intelligent self-help blood distribution refrigerator ensures non-contact safe blood collection, automatic inventory counting, accurate blood sample positioning, from sample storage to blood transfusion, multiple identification and certification and self-service printing functions are also equipped to achieve rapid and accurate blood use.
